In keeping with Mary Clark Thompson’s spirit of community-minded philanthropy, the F.F. Thompson Foundation has established a Community Health Grants Program. Twice each year, in April and October, this program enables the F.F. Thompson Foundation to directly invest in projects and organizations that care for the residents of the communities Thompson Health serves. Through a competitive application process, the awards provide financial support of $500 to $2,500 each to local 501C3 nonprofit groups that have set clear goals to improve the health and wellness of a specific population within Thompson Health’s service area.
Application deadlines: April 1 and October 1.
By providing Community Health Grants, the F.F. Thompson Foundation will:
Eligibility:To be eligible, the organization must be a 501C3 nonprofit located within Thompson Health’s primary or secondary service area. Strong preference will be given to projects within Thompson Health’s primary service area.
Awards will be based on:
• Projects that improve literacy and the health status of the community through the prevention of obesity and chronic disease (such as diabetes and heart disease) will receive special consideration.
• Partnerships may or may not include Thompson Health.
• Partnerships should demonstrate active participation by all the parties, but one entity may serve as the lead agency. Participating partners should secure a Board Resolution or Letter of Intent outlining their role within the proposed project.
• Projects that demonstrate commitment of existing or matching funds will receive more favorable consideration.
All applications received will be scored based on the strength of the information provided. The F.F. Thompson Foundation reserves the right to award full or partial funding, dependent upon the availability of the current grant cycle’s remaining funds.
Grant Awardee commitmentGrant awardees must commit to providing a final report (within 6 months of funding) to the Foundation, as well as an interim progress report if requested. Exclusions
Funds may not be used for prizes, construction or personnel costs (salaries, benefits, etc.) Grants will not be given to partnerships that include for-profit entities.Projects funded within the past 12 months will not be considered.Selection ProcessThe Mary Clark Thompson Grant Committee will review all submissions and make funding recommendations to the F.F. Thompson Foundation Board of Directors. The Foundation Board of Directors will meet in late April and late October to review the recommendations of the MCT Grant Committee. Applicants will be notified in writing within 30 days of the Foundation Board’s decision (late May and late November). *The F.F. Thompson Foundation will make a total of $20,000 available (annually) from the income of its endowment fund. This amount is subject to change in subsequent years at the discretion of the F.F. Thompson Foundation Board of Directors.
